Mighty Dev Update: March playtest, new features, & more
Read this for a tl;dr on what's going on in the MightyNet
Yes, we postponed the February playtest, but here’s why…
We want to make each update to the game as meaningful as possible. We realised the February update would be fairly small in terms of gameplay impact, and since we’re making a game that’s fun first, we realised just shipping for the sake of shipping would be wrong.
We also want to make sure our team can keep focused and work at a healthy pace. Burnout is very common in web3 since the space does not sleep. We pushed really hard at the end of 2022 to make sure we shipped our very first playable build on the date we committed to, and we had to ask our team to do more than what was comfortable at that time. Now we want to make sure they stay healthy and can do their best for you!
So, you’ll have to wait a month more to play Mighty Action Heroes again, but here’s what you can look forward to on March 17.
MightyNet Profile: claim your name!
Hero Abilities: Charge & Roll!
First Gadget: Grenades!
We’re rolling out a profile page! You’ll be able to set your username and connect your Twitter and Discord accounts, AND see your username in game. It’s your first step to immortality in the MightyNet ecosystem.
We’re kicking off hero abilities, so each hero you’re assigned to will have some variance in play. The first two abilities you’ll be able to try out are Dodge Roll and Charge!
Both abilities will be available for you to try out during the March 17 playtest. We’re still debating how we let you experience the abilities since hero selection will still be random, but play enough games and you’ll be able to experience both!
We’ve got Grenades!
Grenades are Gadgets: permanent, and powerful. They’re on a cooldown, so you have an unlimited amount to toss around! Every player will start with a basic Grenade, but there is some cool Grenade art in the backlog that looks extra shiny, so who knows what the future will bring 👀
Here are some other nifty things we’re working on, including some bug fixes:
We now have an update in game that tells you what gets updated each time we roll out a new update. Updates, yay!
Players will now receive error details. We previously didn’t have any error details for situations like failing to join a match server or authenticate, and now we will. Hurray for communication!
You can now adjust the game SFX and music separately in the Settings
Weapon feel has been worked on a lot, with changes to the shooting style, damage, and reloading of guns. We hope you’ll try each one and see what’s new!
Player movement speed has been improved as well, we got lots of feedback about this previously
Finally, netcode is vastly improved and the game feels more responsive overall. Goodbye lag!
